Does Fish Oil Raise Your Testosterone

No matter what the reason- greater virility, improved workout performance (muscular size and strength) and recuperation, improved mood and outlook or in these Covid times, a more robust immune system, men are always looking for natural and effective means to optimize their testosterone levels year round.

We tend to become enamored with the mysterious herbs or strange hybrid minerals that shine as T support, (usually- only) when the right study sample population is picked. Too many of us read the conclusions of the studies but not the methodology .

Remember BORON and the Polish prepubescent, boron deficient males that improved T levels 800 % when administered ? It took them back to "normal" only. So if you fit that demographic, terrific; but the headlines simply read, "Boron increases testosterone levels 800%". Fish oil may seem boring in comparison but it's proven itself a powerful support supplement time and again.

Fish oil is a rich source of EPA and DHA - essential fatty acids pivotal to optimizing almost every function in the body. You could literally find n-3 fatty acids helping with acne to xenophobia and everything in between. As such it was no surprise to find Omega 3's pivotal role to keeping robust levels of testosterone.

A study published in Biochemistry and Biophysics Reports in 2016 argued that the fish fatty acid EPA makes the testes respond better to LH. (Biochem Biophys Rep. 2016 Jun 30;7:259-65.).

The Japanese maintain that omega-3 fatty acids - especially EPA - make the testosterone-producing cells in the testes more sensitive to LH receptors by altering the cells' membrane. (J Nutr. 1990 Jun;120(6):610-8.).

Remember, LH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. It travels through the blood to the testes, stimulating them to produce more testosterone and sperm cells..

In the study above, had the mice been adult humans, they would have been fed the equivalent of 4-6 grams of fish oil daily.

Researchers from the University of Southern Denmark reported in JAMA that young men who take a fish oil supplement have larger testes and produce more semen than men who don't take fish oil supplements. (JAMA Network Open. 2020;3(1):e1919462.).

Given all the above, if the big red "S" on your workout top is beginning to fade or not live up to the marketing, a tbsp per day of fish oil may go a long way to bringing your mojo back to optimal.
